Misery Loves Company

If you are voluntarily choosing to be negative you are directly missing the opportunity to be optimistic and positive. Who would choose to be so short-sighted? Venting your anger may provide you with a false sense of courage. It may seem good in the short term but it loses all credibility in the long term. And in the process of doing so you will more than likely lose the respect of others at the same time. Your negativity will drive people away from you. It takes more effort to be consumed with negative thoughts and all the irrational related behaviours, than simply just taking positive steps and reaping the associated benefits. In the end you are just creating more work and aggravation for yourself that you will more than likely need to undo and rectify at a later date. Having a negative outlook is a good way to lose friends and other support groups in your life.

Living a negative life will only leave you in a perpetual state of negativity and fear. Even if you have everything you could have ever wanted and more in your life, as long as you have a negative outlook, your problems will never be overcome. That dark shadow will walk with you everywhere you go, and you will not be the only person to witness it – everyone else around you will see it too. You may even find that some of your best relationships will change. Positive people do not keep negative people in their lives. Everyone has a tolerance level – if you push a positive person too much, they too may eventually eliminate you from their lives. So if you are continuously negative and cannot contain yourself, you will ultimately be pushing all the positive people out of your life. Positive people will begin to avoid you like the plague. All you will be left with is the company of similarly negative people, and as the old saying goes, “Misery loves company”.

Understanding the downsides of a pessimistic mindset will help you reduce a negative outlook. By evaluating your past behaviour and your state of mind at the time, you can determine how destructive your past actions have actually been. Understand that a negative state of mind carries nothing but anger, excuses, jealousy and a whole other load of undesirable emotions with it. You will never be able to solve anything or make suitable decisions for yourself when your mind is not in it with good intentions. Engaging in a single moment of negativity can instantaneously make all your good qualities and positive nature evaporate in mere seconds. Recognizing and understanding that your attitude plays a major role when discriminating between right and wrong is at the foundation of self-regulation.
