If you are looking for natural, healing spices and herbs and don't know where you start, we compiled a list of our top picks (naturally, our preference is for the 'fresh' version of each, but it's always great to have these on hand to add a little extra spice to your drinks/meals)! Cayenne Pepper - includes a variety of beneficial antioxidants & may boost a number of things like your metabolism, lower your blood pressure, relieve pain, helps with digestion & more.
Cinnamon - loaded with antioxidants & tastes great too! Cinnamon may help to lower blood sugar levels, help fight infections, repair tissue damage, acts as an anti-inflammatory, may reduce the risk of heart disease, & is supposed to be a mood-booster to help put you in a good mood! Cinnamon aroma is also known to improve cognitive abilities such as concentration & memory - so be sure to place a few loose sticks in a bowl in your kitchen.
Coriander (leaves or seeds) - one of my personal favourites ;) Loaded with antioxidants known to promote heart, brain, skin, & digestive health, and may also help fight infections & lower your blood sugar & cholesterol.
Cumin (seeds or powder) - may help fight some bacterial & fungal infections, boost the immune system, assist with weight loss, reduce stress, improve memory function & more!
Garlic Powder - garlic has been used for centuries as a medicinal tools & the number of home remedies associated with garlic are plenty from immunity boosters to lowering cholesterol & the risk of heart disease, to treating wounds, parasites & intestinal disorders. Garlic powder made from fresh, dried garlic cloves contains alliin & allinase, but not allicin, according to the March 2001 "The Journal of Nutrition".
Ginger - used to help fight the flu & common cold, assist with digestion, may reduce pain (including menstrual pain), nausea & even morning sickness, & may also have powerful anti-diabetic properties. It has also been said to improve memory function & protect against Alzheimer's disease.
Onion Powder - fresh onions are loaded with antioxidants & the benefits are numerous. Onion powder is made from dehydrated onions & is a great substitute for salt. Onion powder contains calcium, potassium, small amounts of magnesium, and may also help reduce your risk of developing high blood pressure, heart disease & stroke.
Oregano - high in antioxidants, assists in fighting bacteria & infections, reduces inflammation, & contains Vitamin K.
Paprika (a.k.a. Powdered Red Chilli Peppers) - rich in antioxidants, vitamins and minerals containing Vitamins A, C, B6 & K1, potassium and copper. Also known to help with pain and weight loss.

Remember, dried spices have a shelf life and it's best to replace them every six months. Add a label to each spice jar to help you remember when they need to be replaced.
