Meditation works as an emotional healing method by intention with intrinsic curative powers. Its benefits extend far beyond that of physical illness. It assists with mental ailments such as depression and a victim mindset. Meditation acts as an elixir of life whereby healing your soul and inexplicably changing your outlook on life as a whole. I feel that meditation can potentially alter the genetic expression of your soul and create order out of chaos. Healthy mind. Healthy body. Peace of mind. Peace of body. Everything is connected.
The Rise of Epigenetics
Over the more recent years we are seeing the rise of epigenetics and the study of how outside factors influence the role of gene expression within our bodies – the DNA, RNA, and proteins. What was once a vague interpretation or understanding is now evolving, and the more that is being uncovered, the more that is being understood about chromatin structure. Epigenetics looks at all the mechanisms that come into play, such as inheritance and the environment, whereby turning some genes off and becoming inactive, and turning some genes on and becoming active. We are all literally the result of thousands upon thousands of genes, each being unexpressed or expressed, in combination with one another that makes each and every one of us unique. The mechanisms that affect these genes are infinite. But do you think it is possible to consciously alter some of our genes through dedicated effort? Do you think it may be possible to create our own wins? Do we have an active role in our own epigenetics? If we begin early enough in the process, can we consciously slow our individual aging, or heal or control our own mental and physical illnesses to a certain degree? Does mind over matter play a role in epigenetics?
“I think, therefore I am”
I like to think that healing by intention encompasses how your state of mind influences your cell structure and can be one of the many mechanisms that contribute to your well-being. Taking René Descartes common philosophical proposition, “Cogito ergo sum” in Latin, or “I think, therefore I am” in English, and view it from a different lens. What if we use that proposition and apply it to all aspects of our lives, including on a cellular level? I am able to think it, therefore I am able to be it. Whether it be envisioning your wishes through to completion, to how you control your mental state, to influencing your overall physical health, and more.
In this case, let’s apply it to our health. If am able to think that I am physically healthy, will I actually be physically healthy? Will my thoughts or how I think and perceive my overall physical state to be, influence it from a cellular level? I believe it is possible to a certain degree to contribute via our mental thoughts to our own healing. Everything in combination. Everything in balance. When combining various treatments for illnesses, the power of mind has to play a role on another level that we are unable to see – part of the hidden mysteries we have yet to uncover. In order to have harmony in our lives, we need balance on every level imaginable. Too much of something in either direction will outweigh the opposing action at some point in time. So achieving a balanced perspective on all aspects may lead to a better perspective in our overall existence here on earth. I believe meditation is just but one of many epigenetic tools that can be used to play a role in lengthening your life, keeping you healthier, feeling younger, and your overall internal well-being. The power of positive thinking and the impacts of such are infinite.
